Joy Workshop (Persatuan Kebajikan Insan Istimewa Melaka), started in 1999, is a non-profit centre which aims at providing young adults with learning difficulties (Slow-learners, Down’s Syndrome, Autistic and other mental impairments) an opportunity to learn work-related skills so as to achieve their full potential and lead a normal a life as possible with help from the family and the community at large. The workshop, which is located Taman Semabok Perdana, Melaka has 52 'clients' registered in the Junior Programme, Pre-Vocational and Sheltered Workshop aged from 6-44 years. The centre opens from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm from Mondays to Fridays. The clients get paid contract jobs while those in the junior programme are trained in self help skills, social and communication skills, functional academics and community functioning skills. Joy Workshop is registered with the Registrar of Societies, Inland Revenue Board and the Welfare Department.
